Accessing real emotion and living truthfully in an imaginary set of circumstances is often a challenge for actors. In Personalisation, Marilyn McIntyre has designed and delivers a series of progressive exercises that seek to address these issues. These exercises guide the actor through specific techniques in order to facilitate genuine emotional responses to source material.
These exercises require the actor to explore their connection to emotional stimuli including music, images, news stories and prose - thereby learning tools to bring genuine emotional responses to their work and performances. Exercises are undertaken individually and as a group during class, and are supported by homework assignments.
Course prerequisite: Students must have read Howard Fine’s ‘Fine on Acting: A Vision of the Craft’ prior to the beginning of the course.
