congratulations on securing an audition
for the Howard fine acting studio full time course
Below you will find some information about the audition process, as well as a download link for the audition pieces. We recommend reading the information very carefully. Once you have completed your application form, someone from the office will be in touch with you to schedule your audition. In addition to completing the application form, please also ensure that you have emailed a copy of your headshot and CV to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Audition dates: August - January (the course starts in late February)
Where: Howard Fine Acting Studio, 7 Cozens Street, Brunswick, VIC 3056
What to prepare
Please prepare two monologues. The first must be from the list of audition pieces provided below, the second can be one of your own choosing or it can also be from the ones provided by The Studio. Your personal monologue selection can be classic or contemporary, and from any playwright. In addition to preparing your two monologues, we strongly advise you to read Howard’s book ‘Fine on Acting: A Vision of the Craft’, paying particular attention to the chapter on the ‘Eight Steps’. It is also highly recommended that you read the entire play from which your monologues are taken. We also encourage you to audit one of our Scene Study classes or a Master Class with Howard Fine, as this provides excellent insight into the way we work at The Studio.
The Audition Time-line
Auditions for the Howard Fine Acting Studio Full-Time course typically take place on a rolling basis from August - December, with some auditions being finalised in January. Upon receiving your application, we will contact you to schedule an audition time for the next available audition day. We recommend auditioning early on in the process in order to take advantage of opportunities that are offered to Full Time applicants such as auditing and attending studio events. All auditionees will receive confirmation as to their application status by early December.
You will audition individually, with one of our faculty members and, on occasion, one of the Studio managers. We anticipate that your audition will last 30-45 minutes. You will be expected to present (and work) on your audition pieces in the room and undertake an informal interview.
Interstate applicants are invited to travel to The Studio in Melbourne to complete their audition. If applying from interstate, we recommend applying as early as possible, in order to secure a convenient audition date and time.
If you are unable to travel to Melbourne, we are able to arrange a live Skype audition (which may fall outside the audition period outlined above).
Please note that we do not accept pre-recorded video auditions.
