Dear Master Class Auditor,

Thank you for booking in to audit the upcoming Master Class with Howard Fine. The attendance and contribution of auditors at the Master Class is invaluable and helps make the event the exceptional learning opportunity that it is.

The Sydney Master Class 2019 will be held over four consecutive days, at the end of June, and beginning of July, 2019.

Sydney dates 2019

29 June - 2 July, 9:30am - 6:30pm (the class may finish earlier but will not go past 6:30pm)

Fuse Box @ The Factory Theatre, 105 Victoria Road, Marrickville

We ask that you arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early to sign in and ensure that we can make a prompt start.

The Sydney Master Class will take place at Fuse Box at the Factory Theatre, 105 Victoria Rd Marrickville.

How to Get There (as advised on Factory Theatre’s website):

Marrickville is well serviced by public transport including buses and trains.

Buses

The following bus services stop outside the theatre: 423 and 426 (428 turns off at Addison Rd – Vic on the Park Hotel, 2 min walk from the Factory.) These services operate from Circular Quay via Central Station.

Trains

The Factory Theatre is a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride from Newtown Railway Station. Bus services 423 and 426 operate from Newtown Station directly to The Factory Theatre. These services are reasonably frequent and continue late into the evening (after midnight). The Factory Theatre is also a 15 minute walk from Sydenham and Marrickville Railway Stations.

Parking

During business hours, parking is restricted in the immediate vicinity. If you are driving, you may wish to park at either the Addison Road Community Centre (142 Addison Road, Marrickville) which is a 10-15 minute walk to the theatre, or the Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre (34 Victoria Road, Marrickville) approximately 10 minutes’ walk. Both have the option of free all day parking. We advise you allow an extra 20 minutes to park to ensure you are not late, as latecomers will not be admitted until a scene change.

THE MASTER CLASS

During the Master Class Howard will workshop pre-prepared scenes with partnered participants. Each floor session lasts for roughly 50 minutes, in which time Howard will provide feedback, which the participants will apply as they rework their scenes and further explore the technique.

Between each floor session there will be an approximate 5 - 10-minute change over to allow participants time to set up the next scene and for auditors to have a quick break. There will also be a lunch break of roughly 45 minutes to an hour each day. If you arrive late, we ask that you please wait outside the theatre until there is a break/scene change.

Howard is also happy to answer your questions, and there is time dedicated for a Q & A at the end of each day.

WHAT TO BRING

Be sure to bring a notepad and pen to take notes during the workshop. Howard permits audio recording of his notes, feedback and direction but does not permit video recording of his tuition or of the actors as they work. We also recommend bringing a bottle of water.

WHAT YOU’LL BE SEEING - THE MASTER CLASS PLAYS LIST

Each pair of participants has been allocated a play by Howard. From this play, participants select a scene to rehearse using Howard’s book as a guide, and it is those scenes that you will be seeing at the Master Class. It is recommended that auditors become familiar with the source material. We also highly recommend that auditors read Howard’s book, ‘Fine on Acting: A Vision of the Craft’, prior to the beginning of the Master Class in order to gain the most benefit.
